What is Freemasonry?
Freemasonry is a historic and respected fraternity dedicated to the moral and spiritual development of its members. It teaches a system of morality through allegory and symbolism, complementing—not replacing—religious belief. While not a religion, political body, or charitable institution, Freemasonry promotes ethical conduct, personal growth, brotherhood, and the enduring virtues of integrity, humility, service, and compassion.
What it is NOT

Not a religion – religious discussions are not allowed in Lodges.

Not a charity – although members support those in need, it is not a welfare institution.

Not an insurance provider – no benefits are guaranteed.

Not for personal gain – using it for selfish or political agendas is strictly prohibited.

Not political – political discussions and endorsements are forbidden in Lodges.
Who may join?
Freemasonry maintains high standards for prospective members. Applicants must:

Possess an upright moral character and a reputable standing in the community.

Believe in a Supreme Being.

Be loyal and responsible citizens, with a commitment to fulfilling their duties to God, society, and themselves.

Be financially stable, able to meet the obligations of membership without causing hardship to themselves or their dependents.

Be at least 21 years of age (or 18 under certain conditions related to familial Masonic ties.
Furthermore, membership is by voluntary petition. The applicant must be recommended by two Freemasons who can attest to his character and sincerity.
What Freemasonry expects
Membership in Freemasonry confers both privileges and responsibilities. Members are expected to:

Uphold and exemplify the virtues of integrity, humility, patience, charity, and brotherly love in all areas of their lives.

Maintain loyalty to their home, country, and the Craft.

Attend Lodge meetings regularly and participate in its work and charitable efforts.

Conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the high calling of a Freemason.
